15/7/12

I felt ‘a bit off’ at work one day in July 2012. So I asked the receptionist Leonie to cancel a busy afternoon of clients and I went home to rest. After about 5 days at home and with no improvement I went to see my doc. He said I should get an MRI of my head to rule out anything nasty. We booked it in a few days later and I went home thinking the scan had been ordered just to cover the doctor’s arse. I was pretty sure it was a weird man-flu causing a little numbness in the left side of my face and my left hand. Haha, what would I know.

After about 30 minutes in the MRI machine the radiologist pulled me out and I thought that we were finished. Then she explained that she would need to inject me with some contrast dye and put me back in for more images. Straight away my fingers started trembling because I knew that couldn’t be good. When I left I was told I needed to see my doctor right away. I kind of went a bit numb and I knew I was screwed.

This is the picture of the cavenoma in my brain stem when it was at its smallest. You don’t need to be a neurologist to know that the thing outlined in red shouldn’t be there. On the way home I got a call from the GP clinic asking me to go in. We didn’t realise the shit storm that was about to hit. Life would never be the same. Haha, I sound like I’m writing some dramatic fiction. I wish.
