Empowering recovery, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.

Reconstructing With Ryan offers specialised counselling for stroke survivors and people living with acquired disability. I support individuals who are navigating the profound physical, emotional, and identity changes that can follow life-altering illness or injury. Recovery is not only about rehabilitation and regaining function — it is also about making sense of what has been lost, rebuilding confidence, and finding ways to live a meaningful and fulfilling life, even when things look different from before.

How Ryan Works

I draw on Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and my experiences as a 3x stroke survivor.

Person-Centred Therapy

My work is grounded in person-centred therapy, where you are the expert in your own life. I offer a safe, respectful space to explore your experiences at your own pace, rebuild a sense of agency, and reconnect with what matters most — beyond diagnosis  or disability.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) supports people living with chronic pain, disability, and ongoing uncertainty to develop psychological flexibility — the ability to stay present, make space for difficult thoughts and emotions, and still move toward what matters most. It helps people live meaningfully while supporting emotional wellbeing alongside rehabilitation and recovery.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy supports you to explore and reshape the stories you hold about yourself after stroke or disability. We gently examine how loss, change, and identity have been shaped by your experiences. This work creates space for strengths, meaning, and new possibilities beyond diagnosis.

How These Approaches Come Together

Recovery isn’t just physical, and it doesn’t always mean returning to who you were before. My approach blends person-centred therapy, ACT, and narrative therapy to support you emotionally, psychologically, and socially. Together, we explore ways to adjust, rebuild confidence, process change, and move toward a meaningful, fulfilling life on your own terms.
