April 2013
I learnt how to ride a bike again. It was a challenge but I got there. Previously I’d ridden a lot and even entered a few mountain bike enduro races each year. Getting back on the bronco really stirred up a mixture of feelings for me. At times I would be so frustrated at how hard things had become and a minute later I’d realise how lucky I was to be breathing, let alone riding a bike. When I was overwhelmed with my ‘negative mind’ I was never satisfied. I never celebrated the little achievements and always wanted more. I desperately wanted to be able to ride like I used to. I wanted everything to be like it used to be.
Needless to say, I enjoyed life more when my ‘positive mind’ was steering. It felt like all my senses were turned up. Being outdoors and exercising felt so great when I thought back to being bed bound in hospital for months. Actually, when my ‘positive mind’ was in charge everything was great. Food tasted incredible and jokes were funnier. I remember doing an air fist-pump while eating Weetbix for breakfast! They tasted that good 👌🏼. People and relationships were another story. I appreciated my friends and family more. I appreciated Dee more too. That’s for another post though.
