As soon as I managed to move a little, I realised that I had been lying on my side, staring at a white wall for some time. I still felt like a spaceman in zero gravity but when I noticed objects in the room, I could use them as reference points to guide me where up and down was. This sensation wore off over time.
Apparently the surgery could not have gone better. Basically the surgeon had burrowed his way into the centre of my brain, mopped up a bloody mess and patched some leaky blood vessels. He had then got the heck outta there, trying not to hit the sides (haha, I’m in trouble if he reads this!). The neurologists were really keen to see what I was able to do and what deficits I’d come out with.
My major problems were:
- Minimal sensation and coordination of my left side.
- Double vision
- The right side of my face didn’t work.
- I was very weak, too weak to walk.
- I had major nausea, and vomited every couple of hours.
The thing that frustrated me most was that no one could say whether any of my problems were going to be temporary or permanent. That question mark really messed with my head. Fingers crossed🤞🏻.
